It takes a lot of guts to try something new, to have the audacity to try and make something your own. I have felt varying degrees of pride around having the nerve to write this blog, to create these recipes, to share them all with you. One part of me that screams “Oh my god, please tell everyone!” with “Who the hell do you think you are?”.
In Yiddish, the word “chutzpah” comes to mind repeatedly when I think about myself. To be a woman in this world carries its own multitudes of commanding and believing that you deserve space, and I have always danced that societal line that dictates when I’m “charming” and when I’m “too much”. Chutzpah means, simply, having the nerve or audacity. I have a lot of chutzpah, I gotta say.
This project is where I channel some of it.
As a test of my own vulnerability and willingness to crack my façade of perfectionism, I thought a fun series to test here would be visually documenting the trials of my recipe attempts. I may or may not accompany the video with a recipe (depends on the success of the result, to be honest), but I will be my authentic self. I might make you laugh, I might be weird, I might be kind of lame.
No matter what though—there will be chutzpah.
Enjoy the first installment of this series, where I take leftovers and a Michelle Pantry staple, and try to make something tasty for lunch.
Shout-out to Katie Lane Wright, who introduced me to my true love: Tuna Creations.
